Located in Haywood County North Carolina, Waynesville and Maggie Valley are surrounded by 18 peaks reaching over 6000 ft in elevation. Cold Mountain made famous by the movie of the same name is one of those 18 peaks. Because of its high elevation every stream, creek, and river in Haywood County originates there. No water flows into the county.

Established in 1808, the 546 sq miles of Haywood County with a population of just over 56,000 offer something for everyone. The Blue Ridge Parkway is the southern border of the county with the Pisgah National Forest on the northern boundary.

Smoky Mountain National Park is America's most visited national park.  Ridge upon ridge of forest and world renowned for its diversity of plant and animal life.  A hiker's paradise with over 800 miles of maintained trails ranging from short  to strenuous treks that may require backcountry camping.   Other activities the Smokies offer are car camping, fishing, picnicking, and wildlife viewing.

Cataloochee Ski Resort
