Lake Nantahala, NC
Located in Macon County North Carolina, Lake Nantahala is nestled in the Nantahala National Forest at 3000 feet. This lake was created in 1942 by Nantahala Power to provide electricity for the war efforts. The town of Aquone was located where the lake is now. Lake Nantahala has 42 miles of shoreline with pristine crystal clear waters. Lake Nantahala is one of the top fishing lakes in the Southeast. Walleye, Lake Trout, Brown Trout, Bluegill, Crappie, Small Mouth and Large Mouth Bass are plentiful in the lake. Trout fishing in the Nantahala River is excellent as well for fly fishing or spin casting.
